Received Honorable Mention, The Art League Gallery, Old Town Alexandria, VA August, 2010

This painting is a tribute to my home state of Virginia. The old bricks were collected from a salvage company in Richmond; they were manufactured in the state. The dogwood is the state flower, and the old bottles also from the state. An old checkerboard found in my mother's attic gave a coordinated background for the subject. What inspired me as much as the 'theme' was the textural contrasts of the elements.
